4 Ways to Receive the Best of God

We know that the best God has given us is His Son Jesus. His sacrifice has given us eternal life, what more could we ask for? God’s generosity has no limits and our Father wants to bless His children even more.

To God belongs all the wealth of the Earth. Nothing is impossible for Him and His wisdom can solve the most difficult challenges. He wants to bless His children, but sometimes we forget to ask Him. “Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called him Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested” (1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NKJV). Simple as that! Jabez asked, and he received.

The first way to receive the best that God has for us is to simply ask Him! Of course, God’s provision is not to satisfy our fleshly urges (James 4:3), and it is always part of His perfect plan (1 John 5:14-15). But like Jabez, we can simply ask God for whatever we need and He will answer in His own way.

This is also the second way to receive the best of what God has for us: discerning His answers (Romans 12:1-2)! We can hear many excellent messages in our churches, on the Internet, and in books. Messages are often accompanied by Bible verses. But is this what God wants to teach us right now? Sometimes, God must heal something in our hearts before giving us our blessing so that we can keep the blessing. If God does not transform our character before giving us a husband, perhaps we will not be able to keep this husband because our bad character will break this union. If we do not have what we ask for, it does not mean that God has not answered. He may only be preparing us for His blessing.

We need to discern whether we are in the right place to receive this miracle. The goat that replaced Isaac on the altar was not down the mountain. It was caught in the bushes next to the altar. Our blessing is in a specific place: are we where God has planned to provide?

When we look in the Spirit for our answer, God may show us that He has already sent His answer, but that our enemy has stolen it from us. To receive the best of what God has for us, we must also, thirdly, recover what the enemy has stolen from us (John 10:10). We sometimes forget, that we have an enemy to fight. We can do this through prayer, by developing our wisdom through reading the Word, and also we must fight him in our thoughts.

The enemy can whisper thoughts of discouragement or defeat to us and this makes us forget the blessings of God. Or, the enemy can offer us a poisonous solution to satisfy our desire, but by distancing us from God (like introducing us to a partner who is not of the same faith as us). Or, the enemy can make us so preoccupied with our routine that we no longer see the blessings before us. We must stop and ask the Spirit of God to show us what the enemy has stolen from our lives and take back our inheritance.

Finally, another way to receive the best of God is to be generous. “There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty” (Proverbs 11:24 NKJV). God wants us to be generous because He is! He is ready to fill us if we are committed to giving everything that overflows to those around us. If we generously give our time and finances to the advancement of the Kingdom of God, our heavenly Father will never stop providing for our needs. He is the one who gives the seed to the sower, but this seed must be sown. “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38 NKJV).

And a generous single person… that’s much more attractive too!
